Your First Visit
Your first visit to our office involves a comprehensive dental exam which includes: an oral cancer screening, gum disease evaluation, evaluation of previous restorations and dental work, and evaluation of tooth surfaces for decay, all performed by our expert team of dentists. It is possible that after this exam, we might recommend some preventive care including but not limited to fluoride treatment, sealants, breath control, and periodontal – gum disease – treatments, all of which are essential to maintaining your smile’s health and appearance. Prevention is the most effective treatment for periodontal disease, which can be accomplished quite easily if you brush and floss daily and regularly visit our office for cleanings and examinations, which are essential to a lifetime of optimal dental health. Tooth loss, gum disease, and bad breath can all be avoided if you follow this simple step, and your overall health will benefit as well. Our dentists and hygienists will provide you with comfort and expert treatment whether you are having a six-month checkup or complete periodontal treatment.
A sealant is a barrier that when placed on tooth surfaces bonds into the depressions and grooves – pits and fissures – of those surfaces and helps protect enamel from plaque and acids. Pit and fissure decay is a serious problem; according to the American Dental Association, more than 80% of cavities are caused by this decay. However, when sealant is placed onto the tooth surface, this decay is prevented. The sealant can resist the force of chewing and stay intact if placed on tooth surfaces properly, and reapplication can be delayed for as long as several years. Our team will examine your existing sealants and apply and/or reapply sealant wherever needed.
